Introduction

I first discovered American Sign Language when I was a sophomore in high school. I joined the ASL Club and fell in love with the language and the culture. As a junior,  I developed a passion for learning even more and started to think about colleges with ASL majors. I finally decided on Valdosta State University. It was the perfect school and I heard that the program was great.

As I started to become more interested in the language and culture, I began to follow different pages on Instagram and Facebook to learn more about the deaf and hard-of-hearing community. It turns out that they are not always represented well. I decided that I wanted to be a voice and an advocate for this community. I began to try and figure out more about what these communities go through, how interpreters help, and how ASL is important in the dead and hard-of-hearing communities.
